You are invited to participate in a research study conducted by Dr Chitat Chan from Hong Kong Baptist University: Narrative Practices and Narrative Media (REC/23-24/0385). The purpose of this study is to explore and evaluate the processes and effectiveness of various narrative activities.
INFORMATION
Within a three-month period, participants will be invited to engage in certain narrative activities, such as face-to-face conversations, journal writing, public interviews, written presentations, online interviews, and photo stories, depending on the activities assigned to them. Participants will be invited to take part in interviews and/or complete online questionnaires.
BENEFITS
Participants can enrich their knowledge about themselves and others, and contribute to the body of knowledge of narrative practices.
DATA POLICY
During the project period, information submitted by participants and digital data generated by the system will be kept strictly confidential. Protocols adopted by the project align with the University’s Privacy Policy Statement and Personal Information Collection Statement (https://bupdpo.hkbu.edu.hk/policies-and-procedures/pps-pics/).
Collection:
We collect data from participants with their explicit consent. This data may include personal stories, images, audio recordings, and other forms of personal information necessary for the project.
Use:
The collected data is used solely for the purposes of the digital storytelling project, such as research, analysis, and sharing stories with the community. We do not share the data with third parties without the consent of the participants. Anonymity is maintained in any open research publication
Management:
• Storage: Data is stored in encrypted formats in secure, access-controlled databases.
• Access: Only authorized personnel have access to the data for project-related work.
• Backup: Regular backups are performed to prevent data loss, stored in secure locations.
Security:
• Encryption: Data is encrypted during transmission and at rest.
• Access Control: We employ strong authentication and authorization mechanisms to restrict access.
• Monitoring: Continuous monitoring for any security breaches or unauthorized access.
Disposal:
When the data is no longer needed (normally within three years of the completion of the study), or at the request of a participant, we ensure its complete and secure disposal:
- Digital Data: Files are deleted using secure deletion tools that overwrite the data multiple times, making it unrecoverable. All backups are also destroyed in a similar manner.
- Physical Records: Any physical forms of data (e.g., printed materials, handwritten notes) are shredded or incinerated.
- Confirmation: After disposal, we perform checks to ensure that the data cannot be recovered.
